About Foothills
Foothills is a digital design training studio founded by Rosie Lidington, a designer with 18 years experience at The Guardian, BBC, NHS, and other mission-driven organisations.
Foothills exists as a launchpad for founders at the foothills of their ideas, equipping them with expert design methods to build products that genuinely meet people’s needs.

Find your audience & build the right thing
90% of new ideas fail and it can take a minimum of two years to get one off the ground.
Since designing her first digital app in 2008 Rosie saw most organisations leap straight into building ideas without designing them first, or knowing who they were for. This doubled or sometimes tripled the the time it took to bring them to the world. Some ideas never made it.
Foothills courses aim to bring Design Thinking methods to founders so they get on the right path and build the right thing from the beginning.

Design Thinking Stanford Professor John Arnold

Design Thinking is used by the most successful digital organisations from the start
Yet founders don’t know about it.
Design Thinking is a method developed since the 1950s by academics and creative design studios to create truly innovative solutions. It’s behind innovative products and organisations like Airbnb, Duo Lingo, BBC iPlayer, and Canva.
Design Thinking helps organisations build the right thing, save time and find real clarity with the audience they are designing for. Foothills courses teach design thinking to founders embarking on creating an idea. Giving them a clear path to bring their idea to life.

Providing a digital foundation to take you forward
When you have a new idea it’s overwhelming to know where to start. You can often go down many wrong avenues or dead ends. It’s easy to start building using tools and solutions that you’ll need to unpick or re-do. Founders don’t have time for this.
Foothills provides a roadmap, setting you on a path to move in the right direction. Foothills teaches you to design like an industry pro, saving you time when you build your solution - providing you with insider tips and technical advice to ensure you have a robust solution plan from the start.

Foothills mission
In 2026 we’ve reached a point where the internet has created a different kind of world. It has created an incredible amount of opportunity but in some ways it’s left us poorer, more lonely, more misinformed, more at risk and much more individualistic.
Rosie created Foothills as a way to combat this. To work with founders who want to see a different kind of digital world. We guide leaders who want to build products and services to meet the needs of their users, over seeking quick or maximum profit. We exist as a starting point for these kinds of organisations.
